Our story begins in a small town
Shortly after World War II the Castle Shannon Coal Company closed its doors and left a vacant mining equipment repair station along Rt. 88 vacant. An entrepreneur, who's name is lost to history, purchased the building an opened the Castle Tavern. The Castle was a successful working mans bar throughout the decades and changed ownership several times. One story even alleges that it once changed hands during a high stakes poker game in the late 1950's. Aquired in 2003 by the current owner it was revamped to a sports bar themed restaurant and continued to be sucessful until its sale and re-naming in 2015. However, the Castle Tavern sprouted a new location in 2012 - The Castle Tavern South - in South Park, PA. Still located on Rt. 88, just 9 miles farther south, the Castle is still providing the south hills with a great dining experience.
